Story of a Syrian Orphan

Those eyes with forever love for me
Those eyes that saw me grow young and free

Those eyes that protected me from all evil
Like the shade of an immense oak tree

Those eyes where I could now see dread and fear
As war approached our land and we had to flee

Those eyes grew even more frightful
With the prospect of our dinghy crossing the mighty sea

Those eyes will be shut for me forever
Our boat broke and deaf ears fell on our rescue plea

Farewell papa, farewell my loving dad
Starting a new life in a new land, I certainly feel no glee.
